Women Pilots

Betty Haas Pfister was a monumental pilot from her years as a WASP in WWII to her career in the aviation field, later on. In the 1960’s she designed and supervised the construction of the first hospital heliport in Colorado. In the mid 1970’s, Pfister joined the U.S Helicopter team, participating in many world champions. She was also paramount to the Aspen community for creating the Pitkin County Air Rescue Group. Formed in 1991, they rescued 32 people by the year 2001. She got the Aspen Airport FAA qualified so that the airport could receive an air traffic control tower. She founded and was the first member of the Aspen, Colorado chapter of the Ninety-Nines. Betty Haas Pfister wasinaugurated into the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame in 1984.
