Cornelia Fort was a WAFS pilot and a flight instructor for Andrew Flying Service in Honolulu, Hawaii. On this same day, December 7, in 1941, Cornelia took her student on a morning flight. She noticed a military plane in the distance, but told her student to continue, since those were common in the area and they were in the civilian zone. However, this military craft continued to head straight for them. She took control of the aircraft and barely dodged a collision. While the plane passed, she noticed the symbol of the Japanese Rising Sun. Cornelia was about to witness the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
