Hazel Ying Lee joined the WASP program during World War II and was assigned to 4th class, 43 W 4. After training she was given an assignment in Michigan to ferry planes. Lee was given orders to fly a P-63 KingCobra to Montana. Because of miscommunication from the control tower, Lee crashed with another P-63 and she passed away from her burns 2 days later. After fighting the Portland, Oregon city cemetery. Her family was able to bury her in the city's public cemetery.
