Women Pilots

Irene Leverton found her love for flying while being in the Civil Air Patrol near her hometown of Chicago. She became a crop duster for her first job as a pilot. Later on, Leverton did several other jobs in the aviation field. She was a flight instructor, she flew an air ambulance and she flew over forests to spot fires. Her most famous endeavour was joining the Mercury 13. Leverton was awarded an honorary Doctorate for her work in the group from the University of Wisconsin.
