Women Pilots

Born in 1905, Louise Thaden was a prolific aviatrix during the 1920's and 1930's. While working for a coal company during the late 20's, Thaden was introduced to Walter Beech who owned Travel Air. Beech offered Thaden a job in the West Coast region of his company. She accepted and a portion of her yearly pay was flying lessons. She won the first All Women's National Air Derby in 1929, which led to the formation of the Ninety-Nines. She was also awarded the Women's Harmon Trophy in 1936, this international award was given to a female aviator that made an impact on the aviation community.
