Women Pilots

Ruth Stewart was the first female pilot to receive her license in St. Louis, Missouri. Her piloting license was a transport license. Stewart flew in the 1930 and 1931 air races. In 1932, Stewart and her co-pilot, Debie Stanford, decided to fly to Buenos Aires. Their trip was to see if they could surpass the record of the time going from New York to Buenos Aires in 5.5 days in a Lockheed Vega. Their plane disappeared in a national forest in Pennsylvania shortly after taking off.
